One of the biggest trades in NFL history went down ahead of the 2022 season when perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins for a total of five draft picks: 2022 first-, second-, and third-round picks along with 2023 fourth- and sixth-round picks. The trade sent shockwaves through the league.
The Dolphins got a massive star, as Hill is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL. However, many believed the Chiefs to be the team on the losing end. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was without his star receiver, and it felt like the trade was one-sided.
Despite the feelings that the Dolphins made out like bandits, the Chiefs went on to win the 2022 Super Bowl, along with the 2023 Super Bowl. Mahomes may not have had Hill, but he was plenty fine with the receivers he had.
Despite Hill’s excitement to be with a new team, he recently got brutally honest about the trade, and having to watch his former team win a Super Bowl right after trading him away.
Hill joined the “Millions of Worth Podcast” to talk about the big trade. The former Chiefs receiver was asked if part of him was upset about missing out on his next Super Bowl victory.
Hill stated, “The first year that they went, me and my wife had taken a trip to Tokyo because it was kind of hard for me… I didn’t want to look at a game. I don’t want to look at anything.”
Hill revealed that watching the Super Bowl was too much for him, so he chose to abscond to Japan with his now-wife to get away from football. That makes perfect sense.
Hill also revealed that despite his hurt feelings about missing out on the Super Bowl with his former longtime team, he still reached out to his former teammates and congratulated them. He also indicated that he was able to watch the 2023 Super Bowl fully and was completely fine with how things transpired.
There is no telling how much more dominant the Chiefs would be if Hill was still on the team. However, the NFL is a business and that side of it can sometimes rear its ugly head.
The good news is Hill has elevated the Dolphins team in multiple ways, as they were a Super Bowl hopeful last season. They could return to that same place this season, and the combination of Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has turned Miami’s offense into one of the most dangerous in the NFL.
