Disney+ has released a brand new Bluey episode titled “Surprise,” which began streaming early this morning on Sunday, April 21 at midnight PT.
The episode will also air on Disney Junior at 7 a.m. PT and on Disney Channel at 7:30 a.m. PT, with several repeat airings throughout the day.
The new episode follows the April 7 episode “Ghostbasket” and the emotional 28-minute special “The Sign,” which had viewers of all ages in their feels.
Bluey was created and written by Joe Brumm and centers around a fun-loving and energetic Blue Heeler dog living with her Mum, Dad, and little sister, Bingo. Bluey funnels her peppy spirit into playing games that keep her engaged with her family and others in the neighborhood.
Brumm recently spoke to The Guardian, sharing about what inspired the show, adding that the comedy Gavin & Stacey “was influential in a big way.”
“I loved how it genuinely crossed generations, like The Simpsons back in the day,” he said. “I thought: ‘Why shouldn’t a kids’ show make parents laugh too?’ When the time came to do Bluey, that became the challenge.”
Brumm also shared that Bluey was an Aussie take on Peppa Pig and that when they were developing the show it “felt really English but without cliches or flag-waving” that he feels the latter has.
“Mr Bull would be digging up the road and say: ‘It’ll be finished when it’s finished.’ There are canal boats and castles in the background,” he added. “That’s what I wanted my show to do – to feel Australian but not with kangaroos and koalas, just by capturing the fabric of everyday life.”
