A Syracuse cop and a sheriff’s deputy were shot and killed in an upstate New York community Sunday night, according to reports.
The double-fatal shooting happened in a residential area of the Syracuse suburb of Salina between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., Syracuse.com reported.
An officer with the Syracuse Police Department and a deputy with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office were hit by gunfire, a Syracuse police spokesperson told The Post Sunday night.
A suspect has been taken into custody, Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelley said at a press conference after 11 p.m., the local publication reported.
Law enforcement officers were responding to a call of a stolen car before they reached a house where the deadly shooting happened, WSYR reported.
A person at the home was also injured, Shelley said. It’s unclear if this person was involved in the shooting or a bystander.
Law enforcement flooded the area following the shooting, according to images from WHEC.
A dozen police cars were parked outside Upstate Hospital with even more law enforcement officers near the door to the emergency room, according to Syracuse.com.
There is no threat to the community, Shelley added.
