President Joe Biden is interrupting his beach weekend to return to the White House as Israel and US forces in the Middle East braced for a possible impending attack by Iran.
Biden had been in Rehoboth Beach, Del., and was originally expected to return on Sunday, CNN reported.
The president is expected to be back at the White House Saturday to “consult with his national security team about events in the Middle East,” his administration confirmed.
Both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris previously raised eyebrows by jetting out of DC as tensions between Israel and Iran reached a boiling point.
While Biden left down for a beach getaway, Harris made a campaign appearance in Tucson, Arizona, on Friday.
Meanwhile, Tehran is expected to imminently launch a direct attack on Israel – a move Biden himself vehemently warned against during a press briefing Friday.
The threats from Iran — following Israel’s assassination in Damascus of a top Iranian Revolutionary Guard general — have raised the prospect of a wider regional conflict.
As of Friday, the US had moved two guided-missile destroyers capable of intercepting drones and incoming missiles closer to Israel in anticipation of the attack, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The country is also prepared to help Israel intercept missiles from Iran.
