Today host Jenna Bush Hager has never been one to keep the “wild” days of her youth a secret. But, during a recent broadcast, she blamed it on her alter ego who had one motto: “Sleep when you die.”
Kotb, who is known for her cheery disposition on the show, surprised Bush Hager by confessing that her alter ego is more like her “evil twin” named Helen who comes out when she gets angry.
“I’m kind of a rare, Mount Etna exploder. It’s not often,” she explained. “Helen doesn’t care she just blows up and she says exactly what is happening when she gets pushed too far.”
Bush Hager, on the other hand, had an alter ego that makes her want to “go out all night long.”
“I used to have one after a couple of margaritas but she’s retired,” she joked.
After Kotb asked if she was the “wild” one, Bush Hager replied, “Yeah, she’s the one who sort of danced around. I mean that’s still there a little. She was the one who didn’t care about bed… Sleep when you die.”
She added, “That type of attitude that was like, ‘Let’s go out all night long!’”
“You don’t do that as much,” Kotb noted. “But sometimes she’s still the last one at the party.”
“Very rarely, but this person even took that up a couple of notches,” Bush Hager replied.
Indeed, she did. Bush Hager recently told viewers that she lost four teeth during a “drinking and dancing accident” when she was younger. But this is just one of several stories Bush Hager has shared from her youth, including the time she almost got a Destiny’s Child tattoo, or the time she was arrested for underaged drinking while her father was still President of the United States.
Just last year, Kotb called her out for being “the ringleader” at the Today Show holiday party.
“I heard from sources that they said, ‘Let’s get the check.’ It was late, and sources say that you said, ‘One more round!’” Kotb said, which Bush Hager denied.
Today with Hoda and Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
