Kristen Wiig returned to Saturday Night Live to host the show for the fifth time, which meant she would be inducted into the five-timers club.
“I am so happy to be back, and I am so excited because it is my fifth time hosting, so I am officially in the five-timers club,” Wiig said at the beginning of her monologue.
The Palm Royale star then took a moment to say hello to the band and explain that, as a former cast member, it was special to be a part of the exclusive club. Paul Rudd popped up among the audience with his club jacket asking if he could see the script to be part of the sketch where she gets the jacket.
“Oh! No, I’m sorry. I don’t think we’re doing one of those,” Wiig said.
Rudd seemed disappointed, and former writer Paula Pell made an appearance, acting like she was an audience member and telling Wiig that they “hand those [jackets] out to everybody like free maxi pads.”
Matt Damon made a cameo, telling Wiig he grew up watching her on SNL. Wiig noted that Damon had a jacket on despite only hosting twice.
“Yeah, but Lorne [Michaels] said the first time I hosted was so good it counted for three,” Damon said. “And then, the second time, was not quite as well but that only counted for two. But by my math, that’s five baby.”
Wiig then turns to Michaels to ask if the jacket means anything anymore. The SNL creator was among a group of former hosts — Fred Armisen, Jon Hamm, Will Forte, and Martin Short — sporting the jacket despite not hosting five times.
Forte told Wiig that they had hosted SNL five times together, which is why they all had jackets.
“What is going on here? I mean, I was really excited about being in the five-timers club. Now it just seems that it’s not even that special,” Wiig said.
The group of guys got together to sing and celebrate Wiig and Forte noted that Ryan Gosling had just walked onto the set.
“Are you sure? I mean, I haven’t even hosted three times yet,” Gosling asked Michaels.
Gosling then finally joined the rest and helped Wiig put on her five-timers club jacket.
