A cat owner has melted hearts on social media after sharing a video of her pet cat spontaneously deciding to introduce her to her newborn kittens.
In the viral clip, shared on TikTok in March, under the username usersilver22, the tuxedo cat can be seen leading her owner upstairs, stopping to look back as if making sure she’s following her.
Once upstairs, the feline brings her owner into the bedroom, where her three kittens, who look just like her, are napping in a warm blanket inside a box.
Upon becoming moms, most cats develop maternal instincts and become very protective of their babies, but what happens when the kittens are adopted into different families?
While not all cats will exhibit signs of missing their babies when they’re taken away for adoption, many do show some form of sadness and distress, and that’s because they develop a strong bond during the first weeks of the kittens’ lives, according to website Vet Explains Pets.
That’s why if your cat’s babies are rehomed, you should provide her extra comfort and support to help her deal with her loss.
“Remember, cats may be independent creatures, but they are not immune to the pain of loss and separation,” the website said.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 933,600 views and 174,700 likes on the platform.
One user, BobbyBiggzz, commented: “I like how she keeps looking back to make sure you’re coming to see her babies.” And Breanna DeMoulin said: “She did such a good job holding those babies and she probably had a rough time but she did great and she finally had them and they are beautiful babies kittens.”
BuckyBeaver wrote: “She’s so proud of her beautiful babies. They all look like her.”
I.saiiri added: “My friend’s cat had kittens and when I saw them, she wasn’t nearby. He warned me he was bringing her in just in case, since she didn’t know me well, but she was so proud and wanted to show her babies off to me and yelled at me incessantly until I was on the ground with my hand in the crate petting them. She even shoved one in my hand.”
