EXCLUSIVE: American Born Chinese star Daniel Wu is set to join Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose in 87North’s With Love for Universal Pictures. The film Quan’s first starring role since winning the Supporting Actor Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
87North’s Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, who also produced Atomic Blonde, Nobody and the upcoming summer pic The Fall Guy, will produce. Universal has set a release date of February 7, 2025.
With Love is written by Josh Stoddard, Luke Passmore and Matthew Murray. Guy Danella is also producing for 87North. Making his feature film directing debut is veteran stunt coordinator and fight coordinator Jonathan Eusebio. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Universal’s EVP Production Development Jay Polidoro and Director of Production Development Tony Ducret will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
Wu is a renowned Hong Kong-American actor, director and producer with a career spanning more than 25 years, beginning when auteur director Yonfan cast him as the lead in the film Bishonen. He quickly rose to fame, starring in films like Benny Chan’s Gen-X Cops, Caught in Time and City of Glass. He made his directorial debut with The Heavenly Kings, a humorous glimpse into the Hong Kong music industry, which won him the Hong Kong Film Award for Best New Director.
His string of international films includes China’s submission to the 88th Academy Awards Go Away Mr. Tumor, Duncan Jones’ adaptation of Warcraft, Tomb Raider and Reminiscence. He also starred and executive produced AMC’s Into the Badlands (2015-2019), as well as executive produced the documentary Blurring the Color Line. Most recently, Wu starred in the Disney+ limited series American Born Chinese.
Wu is repped by UTA, Leverage Management, and PJ Shaprio, Kendall Jackson and Raymond Tambe at JSSK.
