If you thought Drew Barrymore getting blindfolded and locked in a glass cage as a birthday present was wacky, you ain’t seen nothing yet! During today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the talk show host and You superfan rang in her 48th birthday with a surprise appearance from Penn Badgley â where she suggested that he murder her on live television.
Ahead of the off-the-walls exchange, co-host Ross Mathews lead Barrymore to a glass cage â similar to the one Badgley’s character Joe Goldberg uses to hold people hostage in the hit Netflix series.
When the Gossip Girl alum finally made his way onstage, a starstruck Barrymore dropped to the ground. However, things took a little bit of an odd turn as the birthday girl said she feels like she’s “getting to live every woman’s dream.”
You know, the typical dream of getting kidnapped by the actor, locked in a cage against your will, and likely murdered.
Badgley, who has previously opened up about feeling uncomfortable over fans’ romanticization of his serial killer character, then joked, “I’m gonna leave.”
Meanwhile, Barrymore went on to reference his last appearance on her show (via video call), which resulted in her and Casey Wilson tossing themselves over the Drew’s News desk in excitement.
“I mean, I know this cage from the show and Casey and I â Casey Wilson â wishing that we could be the lucky women that you lock up. What happens in here?” Barrymore sheepishly asked from inside the glass cage. “I mean I know certain peopleâs fate. I guess I was just curious as to where this was going.”
Badgley, who we must point out is not a real-life murderer, was quick to clarify, “This is as far as it goes here. Iâm gonna let you out whenever.”
However, Barrymore had other ideas.
“How amazing would that be? That would be really epic. Talk about going viral if you offed me in here, Iâm just saying,” she suggested. “It could be genius! Now that would make some serious television.”
While an uneasy Badgley replied, “Thatâs good content right there,” Barrymore noted, “That would break the internet, as they say.”
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
