A wearable dress that materializes out of a spray can may sound like something out of Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, but it was a reality at Paris Fashion Week.
On September 30, Bella Hadid closed the Coperni spring/summer 2023 fashion show when the model stepped up to a platform wearing nothing but a pair of high-cut panties. From there, a group of painters sprayed her down with Fabrican, a groundbreaking nonwoven synthetic fiber material that can be applied via an aerosol can or spray gun device.
What resulted was a calf-length white, body-hugging dress, which was then customized with off-the-shoulder straps and a thigh-high slit. You can see the photos of the process here:
Yes, Bella Hadid was able to walk the runway in the spray-on creation right then and there:
According to Harper’s Bazaar, Coperni designers Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillan dedicated the modern show to “women of this world,” writing, “To you, women who transcend your body and never lower your gaze before the barbed wire of morality.”
The moment also appears to be an ode to Alexander McQueen’s spring-summer show at London Fashion Week in 1998, which featured model Shalom Harlow being sprayed with black and neon-yellow paint by robots.
Hadid revealed her relationship with Kalman on July 2, 2021, though she has since removed their first grid photo from her feed. “Time of my life,” she captioned the series of photos at the time, per E! News. “Healthy, Working and Loved.” Prior to Kalman, Hadid famously dated Abel Tesfaye (a.k.a. The Weeknd) on and off between 2015 and 2019.
Hadid and Kalman have reportedly been dating since the spring of 2020, with a source describing the model as “completely smitten.” Though the source said the couple “have been trying to keep it super low-key and private,” they added, “Now that they have become more serious, she has been excited to be seen with him. She is truly so happy right now.”
In March, Hadid told Vogue that keeping their relationship private has allowed their romance to thrive. “I think that’s why things have been able to last,” she said. “When you give other people room to have opinions on things that are so personal to you, it poisons it.”
