Apple’s latest iPhone flagship series has become available in some regions a few days ago and while the iPhone 14 Plus is still waiting for its official roll out next month, a new report claims several features of the iPhone 15, including cutting-edge technology, never before seen in the series.
The Cupertino-based tech titan reportedly wants to equip the iPhone 15’s high-end models with TSMC’s 3nm tech on its A17 system-on-a-chip chipset, according to a new report from Japanese financial publication Nikkei. Citing “sources briefed on the matter,” the report claimed that Apple would be the first company to use TSMC’s cutting-edge N3E technology for its A17 chipset next year.
“The A17 mobile processor currently under development will be mass-produced using TSMC’s N3E chipmaking tech, expected to be available in the second half of next year,” Nikkei Asia reported. The report seemingly suggests that the next year iPhone 15 series could be the second launch that Apple uses the most advanced chipmaking tech for its premium models.
“Apple, meanwhile, is likely to use the different levels of production tech to introduce greater differences between its premium and non-premium models. Previously the biggest differences have been in screens and cameras, but this could be expanded to include processors and memory chips,” Semianalysis chief analyst Dylan Patel, chief analyst told Nikkei Asia.
His comment aligns with what TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said about next year’s line-up which will further provide distinction between the non-pro and pro models. “Apple will also start creating differentiation between the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro,” with the use of a “precise product segmentation strategy to generate more sales/profits in a mature market,” Kuo said in a tweet earlier this month.
Another major change that the iPhone 15 will reportedly feature is the removal of the USB-C, making the upcoming flagship series portless. It is worth noting, however, that these claims about the iPhone 15 are not official.
Consumers should temper their expectations about these supposed iPhone 15 features and take them as highly speculative at this stage. Meanwhile, the new iPhone 14 series, including the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max are now available while the iPhone 14 Plus will be released on October 7.
