A new trend going viral on social media has the internet in stitches as people lock children in a room as they play a sound clip of creepy laughter.

The original sound was uploaded by a person under the username @solehudin1294, and the scary audio clip has been used in nearly 80,000 videos.

The most popular videos have millions of views and likes, including one uploaded by @fctorreb. Within two days, the video has gained over 1 million likes and 4.8 million views.

Newsweek reached out to @fctorreb for comment.

In the viral trend, people lock their children, siblings or kids they babysit in a room with the sound playing. While most run away from the door screaming and crying, others do the complete opposite.

Many users of TikTok find the videos hilarious.

“I cant [wait] do this to my children,” one user commented.

“that was sooo mean… do it again,” exclaimed another.

“I swear this trend is better with 2 little siblings or twins,” a Tiktok user said.

Another wrote, “[That’s] so mean now i wanna do it.”

“All these kids bouta share this same experience,” one pointed out.

“Parents traumatizing their kids for a tiktok…. Me, Im the parent,” another laughed.

One wrote, “i still don’t understand why they get so scared it’s hilarious.”

A user commented, “I shouldn’t be laughing.”

“i can’t wait to be a mom,” commented another.

“KEEP THIS TREND GOING,” one TikTok user exclaimed.

“i love this trend so much,” another user echoed.

One user shared a similar experience to the trend, “my cousins did this to me when i was like 8 after we watched the grudge. core memory [for real].”

Newsweek has published several articles on the topic of TikTok including a couple that found a “secret” safe hidden in the floor of their home, a bride praised for giving her bridesmaids a “crazy” survey and a man going on an anti-work rant that has the internet agreeing with him.

What “scary” movies are okay for my child to watch?

Are you looking for spooky movies for your children to watch that aren’t super scary? Per parents.com, these are the perfect movies to watch with your children: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Labyrinth, The Goonies, Goosebumps, Beetlejuice, the Harry Potter films, Gremlins and Coraline.

How scary movies can have a positive impact on your mental health

Yes, you read that correctly—horror movies can have a positive effect on mental health, according to Healthline. Horror movies can help people face their fears and can help build resilience. Many have feelings of fear while watching a horror movie, but feeling fear in a safe place can have a relieving effect.

“[Horror] can actually teach us how to handle real-world stress better,” Kurt Oaklee, founder of Oaklee Psychotherapy said, “During a stressful film, we are intentionally exposing ourselves to anxiety producing stimuli. We usually don’t engage in the same unhealthy coping mechanisms that we utilize in real life. We learn how to manage the stress in the moment. This practice can translate to helping us manage everyday stressors and fears.”
