Rosie OâDonnell regrets making fun of Anne Heche on stage following the actressâ quirky interview with Barbara Walters back in 2001.
The comedian, 60, took to TikTok on Sunday to address the fiery car crash thatâs left Heche, 53, in âcritical conditionâ and fighting for her life.
âI canât stop thinking about this Anne Heche accident and how horrifying the whole thing is and feeling bad that I made fun of her when she was talking to Barbara Walters about having a relationship with space aliens,â OâDonnell said in the TikTok video.
âIf we have an honest discussion about drunk driving, we find out just how prevalent it is and thatâs terrifying, isnât it?â she added, implying that Heche may have been under the influence, which cops suspect.
âI wonder if sheâs OK. I think itâs a miracle that she didnât kill anyone ⦠and I hope she survives. But wow, what a tragic tale. That car was on fire for a long time, they say.â
The “View” alum then urged her followers to seek help “if [they] are struggling” with alcoholism.
âTry it before itâs too late,â she advised. âTry it before youâre at your lowest.â
Back in 2001, during a â20/20â interview with Walters, Heche alleged she created a âfantasy worldâ and a second personality called Celestia after she was sexually molested by her father, Donald, when she was younger.
âIâm not crazy. But itâs a crazy life. I was raised in a crazy family and it took 31 years to get the crazy out of me,â Heche told Walters at the time.
âI had a fantasy world that I escaped to. I called my other personality Celestia,â she noted, claiming that this other persona had supernatural powers. âI believed I was from that world. I believed I was from another planet. I think I was insane.â
OâDonnell later mocked Heche for the interview at an Ovarian Cancer Research benefit at Carolines Comedy Club in Times Square in 2002, according to USA Today.
âWhat the hell kind of train wreck was that?â the comedian reportedly asked the crowd, before poking fun at Hecheâs sexuality and her former relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.
âShe couldnât just say, âI was a lesbian for two years, it didnât work out for me?ââ
As Page Six previously reported, Heche has been fighting for her life since last Friday, when she was left severely burned after an accident left her car âengulfedâ in flames.
âShortly after the accident, Anne Heche became unconscious, slipping into a coma,â her spokesperson told Page Six on Monday. “She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.â
Earlier that day, Page Six confirmed that the Los Angeles Police Department obtained a warrant to test the actressâ blood as they believe she may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when she crashed her car into an LA home.
âIf found intoxicated, [Heche] could be charged with misdemeanor DUI hit and run. No arrests have been made so far,” the statement read.
According to eyewitnesses, Heche first crashed into the garage of an apartment complex but sped off before residents could help her.
