DC fans, get ready to rejoice: Peacemaker is set to arrive on HBO Max in the New Year.
The series is a spin-off of The Suicide Squad, and will see director James Gunn return to the franchise after helming the aforementioned supervillain flick.
John Cena, who portrayed the character in the DC film, returns to the titular role for an action-packed, gory eight-episode series.

When is Peacemaker out?
Peacemaker is a HBO Max original which means it will only be available to watch on the streaming platform.
HBO confirmed on December 3 that the show would be released on January 13, with the first three episodes available to stream straight away, with subsequent episodes released on a weekly basis.
At the time, Cena tweeted: “If you love peace like I love peace then hit play on the #Peacemaker trailer and [heart] this tweet for a reminder from @DCPeacemaker to tune in on 1/13 only on @HBOMax!”
Gunn directed the premiere and five other episodes, and the filmmaker also wrote all eight episodes from the first season.
What will happen in Peacemaker?
Peacemaker follows directly on from the events of The Suicide Squad, with Cena’s supervillain continuing to work for the government as an assassin after surviving being shot at by Deadshot (Idris Elba) and having a building fall on him.
Despite his job requiring him to kill whoever the government wants, Peacemaker is struggling with a crisis of conscience after murdering Rick Flag (Joel Kinnamen) in The Suicide Squad.
Peacemaker believes in achieving peace no matter the cost, or who he has to kill to get it, and the HBO Max series will follow him as he tries to do this, alongside several government agents.
Who Stars in Peacemaker?
Cena is joined in the lead cast by Danielle Brooks who portrays Leota Adebayo, a member of Peacemaker’s team who doesn’t agree with his views.
Alongside them is Steve Agee, who reprises his role as John Economos from The Suicide Squad, and Jennifer Holland as Amanda Waller’s aide Emilia Harcourt.
Freddie Stroma takes on the role of supervillain Vigilante, Robert Patrick plays Peacemaker’s father Auggie, and Chukwudi Iwuji portrays Clemson Murn.
Is there a trailer for Peacemaker?
A trailer for Peacemaker was released on December 3 which gave fans a glimpse at what’s to come in the show.
The clip teases the struggle Peacemaker goes through in the aftermath of The Suicide Squad, and also the many missions he is sent on with his team on behalf of the government.
Peacemaker lands on HBO Max on Thursday, January 13.
