Rapper Pooh Shiesty has been arrested in connection with the shooting at a strip club in Northwest Miami-Dade, Florida, alleged to have taken place over the Memorial Day weekend.
The 21-year-old musician—real name Lontrell Williams, Jr.—surrendered to authorities on Tuesday and was booked on a charge of aggravated battery.
Williams is alleged to have shot a security guard in the leg during a visit to the King of Diamonds strip club in the early hours of May 30, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Miami Herald.
The warrant states that after Williams performed at the club, a security guard was escorting him out of the premises through the crowd, when “an unknown person knocked money” out of the rapper’s back pocket.
According to the warrant, the crowd made a scramble for the cash, prompting an irate Williams to jump back onto the stage to “see who was grabbing his money.”
After allegedly seeing a firearm in Williams’ waistband, the security guard “told the defendant to hide the firearm and tried to put his hand on [Williams’] hand to prevent him from taking the firearm out from his waistband,” the warrant states.
However, as he was being led out of the building once again, Williams is alleged to have taken out the gun and fired a single shot, which hit the guard in the ankle, according to the warrant.
Following the shooting, Williams and his entourage left the scene in a Cadillac Escalade, according to police.
The charges are the latest legal woes for Williams, who is signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records label.
In December, the “Back in Blood” rapper was arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a weapon, and petty theft in connection with an October shooting in Florida’s Bay Harbor Islands.
Pleading not guilty to the charges, the Memphis native had been out on bond following his surrender to police last year.
Memorial Day weekend celebrations in Miami were marred by a spate of gun violence last month.
Rapper Wisdom Awute, 21, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, following a shooting in Miami Beach over the same weekend.
The 21-year-old musician—who goes by the name Wisdom—is on the Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment roster, fronted by fellow rapper DaBaby, who was also brought in for questioning in connection with the shooting.
DaBaby, 29—real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk—was released without charge.
Newsweek has contacted representatives for Lontrell Williams, Jr. and the Miami-Dade Police Department for comment.
