Madden fans rejoice! The Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions of Madden 21 are available a fully day early…but there is a catch.

EA Sports announced Thursday that gamers can dive into the next-gen versions of Madden 21 starting December 3, ahead of its official release on Friday, if you already own the previous generation version of the game.

The “dual entitlement” upgrade is available to those who own the digital or disc versions of the game. However, many features of Madden 21 won’t be available to those players until a later date thanks to some last-minute bugs.

On the official Madden blog, the Madden team gave more information on this early release and what players need to do to get their free upgrade.

The main problem seems to be coming from the PS5 version of Madden 21. According to the blog, the game is not yet connected to the servers as the Madden team is doing “final testing on a problem” that they’ve already submitted a solution to. Updates on this version of Madden 21 will be coming throughout the day, but in the meantime players can hop into next-gen football offline only.

HOW TO UPGRADE MADDEN 21 FOR XBOX SERIES X AND PS5

According to the official Madden 21 FAQ page, gamers who buy a physical copy of Madden 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, will be able to download and play Madden 21 on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store at no extra cost once the game releases.

If you have the digital copy of Madden 21 on PS4 or Xbox one, gamers can download a digital copy of Madden 21 for PS5 or Xbox Series X/S from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store. Look for the “free upgrade” button after you’ve signed into your console in its respective store to download the upgrade.

It’s the same method as when Mortal Kombat 11 released its next-gen upgrade.

If you buy a physical copy of Madden 21 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and upgrade to a discless PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S, you will need to Contact EA Help to validate your purchase using your account information to receive your free upgrade.

Have you been able to upgrade your Madden 21 to the next-gen consoles without any problem? Let us know in the comments section.
