“The Good Witch” casts her final Season 6 spell with Sunday’s finale on Hallmark Channel, but fans aren’t sure if it’s her last trick ever. The feel-good show has not been canceled yet, but it also hasn’t been renewed for Season 7.
That’s definitely concerning for Goodies, as fans are called, because “The Good Witch” is typically renewed for another season before the current one finishes airing. However, the delay doesn’t necessarily mean Hallmark will cancel the show. “When Calls the Heart” was recently in the same situation, but the network simply waited until a few weeks after the finale to announce the renewal.
What causes these delays? There are many possibilities, from contract negotiations to the global health crisis. Fans shouldn’t worry too much because it seems like the show still has the network and stars’ support, at least judging from social media.
Catherine Bell stars as Cassie on the dramedy, which started with a TV movie in 2008, and she’s been promoting the show on social media consistently by talking to fans and sharing promotional videos. Bell and her co-star James Denton, who plays Sam, are even hosting a watch party on social media with the hashtag #Goodies.
Also, the ratings are relatively good, according to TV Series Finale. “The Good Witch” fell a little from last year, but they’re still the second highest-rated original TV show on Hallmark when it comes to overall viewers. That bodes well for a possible Season 7 renewal.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to Sunday’s new episode. The Season 6 finale will show Cassie’s cousin Abigail (Sarah Power) trying to break the curse keeping her from true love, and Adam (Scott Cavalheiro) and Stephanie (Kylee Evans) try to figure out their future. Meanwhile, Sam and Cassie try to find a new hobby together as Cassie’s teaching gig comes to a close.
“The Good Witch” Season 6 finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on Hallmark Channel.
