2020 marks the 30th anniversary of Nike‘s iconic Air Max 90, so the brand is bringing back its beloved sneaker in several OG-style colorways — two of which are “Hyper Turquoise” and “Volt.” Aside from the memorable colorblocking and recognizable palattes, each of these 90s features a true-to-the-original last. This makes for a look that’s slightly more sleek than retro releases brought to market in years past.
Both styles offer an appealing mix of white mesh, soft grey suede, and black leather on the upper. However, the Tinker Hatfield-designed silhouette’s key details have always been provided by its large Air Max cushioning unit — and surrounding EVA foam — plus bold ridged details on the upper like the heel badge and eyestays. Thankfully, each of those essential pieces have been carried over and presented in proper fashion. The “Hyper Turquoise” presents a cool tropical style, while the “Volt” displays an energetic, sporty ethos with its neon hits.
Each pair is completed by a white midsole/black outsole, and is accompanied by classic accessories like a large rubber Nike hangtag and foam arch supports that can be placed on top of the insole for greater comfort and stability. All of this combined makes for a loving re-creation of a tremendously important and influential piece of Air Max lineage that’s sure to delight Nike Sportswear ‘heads the world over.
The Nike Air Max 90 “Hyper Turquoise” and “Volt” will both release via retailers like Sneakersnstuff on January 9 for $140 USD. You can also look for plenty more Air Max 90s to release over the course of 2020, especially around March 26 — Nike’s annual Air Max Day celebration.
