A Romanian man who was allowed into the UK despite two previous murder convictions fatally stabbed someone less than a month after he arrived in the country, according to a new report.
Dumitru Palazu, 48, had just been released from prison for his second murder when he arrived in the UK on March 13 — and knifed fellow Romanian Alexandru Constantinescu at a caravan park near Canterbury on April 17, Metro UK reported.
“Move aside, I swear on my family’s life, I’m going to cut that one up,” witnesses heard Palazu saying before the attack, according to the report.
He was sentenced to at least 30 years behind bars Tuesday.
During the sentencing, Judge Adele Williams called Palazu a “highly dangerous, manipulative and arrogant” man, the outlet reported.
She told Palazu that he killed Constantinescu “ruthlessly, brutally and without mercy” during a fight — “because [Constantinescu] was drunk and he was shouting various insults and threats to people from Calarasi which is the region of Romania where you come from.”
Williams said that Palazu can be seen on CCTV footage running to join a quarreling group.
“Before you ran down, you armed yourself with a knife,” Williams said. “You stabbed [Constantinescu] quite deliberately to his left side, a wound of such force that it fractured a rib, penetrated a lung and penetrated his heart. You stabbed him right up to the hilt of the knife. I am sure that you have a knowledge of anatomy, which you displayed while you gave evidence, that you knew exactly what you were doing and that you had an intention to kill.”
Constantinescu died of cardiac arrest within 40 minutes, even though open heart surgery was performed on him on the spot, according to the report.
Palazu initially tried blaming the air ambulance doctor and paramedics for the man’s death, but investigators proved otherwise.
He ultimately ditched his representation and held up a piece of paper admitting manslaughter part-way through the trial, according to the report.
Palazu had just wrapped up nine years of a 12-year jail term for killing his girlfriend’s father in 2009.
Before that, when he was 18, he murdered another man during a night out drinking with his friends, according to the report.
“You certainly think that you know better than everyone else,” Williams declared to Palazu. “You are also a violent, ruthless and highly dangerous individual.”
