Three men suspected of stealing cars and parts in several communities south of Boston were arrested in Sharon Tuesday night, though at least one suspect escaped following a highway pursuit.
According to State police, officers conducting surveillance in Dedham approached two vehicles shortly after 7 p.m. when they both fled the scene and later crashed on two separate streets in Sharon.
The suspects fled on foot from the crashes and one man was located nearby by a K-9 unit, police said. He was transported in custody to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton.
While the other two suspects initially eluded capture, they were later located and arrested. Police did not release the circumstances of their arrests.
The three men in custody are Kemoni Mitchell, 21, Joshua Tangui, 26, and Marcos Torres, 24, all from Providence, R.I.
Officers are currently searching for at least one more suspect, who they said led police on a pursuit down Route 95 South in a Jeep Compass and fled on foot after crashing near Exit 4 in North Attleboro.
According to State police, the suspects are part of a Rhode Island-based group that’s responsible for stealing not only cars, but tires and rims as well, in towns including Hanover, Sharon, Braintree and North Attleborough.
The three men are scheduled to appear Stoughton District Court Wednesday morning for arraignment.
