The Trump administration’s campaign to arrest and deport millions of people is putting a new strain on the medical care provided at the country’s more than 200 immigration detention facilities.
The influx of people into detention increasingly includes those with chronic disease, as well as pregnant women and older people. We recently wrote about how these changes are aggravating longstanding problems with the medical care in some detention facilities, resulting in long waits to see a nurse and delays in getting medication or services like X-rays.
We want to speak with health care providers who work inside immigration detention centers to get a better picture of what care there is like. That includes people who work directly for the federal government or for a private contractor, as well as other medical workers who may have treated detained immigrants in external hospitals or doctors’ offices.
