Kate Hudson has revealed that her son Ryder is following in his famous mom’s footsteps and wants to pursue a career in acting.
The “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” star shared the exciting news during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight about her Oscar nomination for “Song Sung Blue.”
“Oh yeah,” Hudson, 46, responded after ET host Nischelle Turner asked whether Ryder, 22, wanted to become an actor.
“He’s graduating from college this year, can’t believe it, so exciting,” she continued. “I think he’s the first in like three generations to graduate from college.”

Ryder, whom Hudson shares with her ex-husband, Chris Robinson, is set to graduate from New York University in May.
Hudson said that what she appreciates about her eldest son is that he “wants to be doing good work.”
“He’s really focusing on college, he’s not trying to get in front of the camera just to get in front of a camera,” she noted.
“I think when you grow up in our family … you gotta understand the craft and believe it in a different way if you’re gonna do it,” she continued, referencing her famous family, which includes mom Goldie Hawn.

Hudson also revealed Ryder’s other interests include designing and building furniture.
“And I thought, ‘Wow, you’re so cool,’” she gushed. “And he’s fantastic.”
Hudson is also mom to son Bingham, 14, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and daughter Rani, 7, whom she shares with fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
During her appearance on the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast back in March 2025, she shared that her kids often times humble herwhen it comes to her fashion choices. They particularly aren’t fans of her clothes that are “a little see-through.”

Hudson said her children tell her, “That’s gross. What are you doing? … Don’t wear that.”
Hudson was also roasted by her older brother, Oliver Hudson, back in December when he joked about her “inappropriate” dress she wore to the “Song Sung Blue” New York City premiere
Oliver posted a pic of his little sister in a plunging green Valentino gown and drew a circle on her left breast.
“I’ll start by saying that I cry everyday with pride for my sis after seeing her performance in Song Sung Blue. It moved me beyond expectation. (Tearing up as I write this) But it’s not fair to me as her older brother to have to see this kind of inappropriate nipple exposer of a dress,” he cracked.
“I would never show my body in a post out of respect for America and parts of Iceland. #shacklethenipple.”
