Unhinged students need a lesson in consequences

Students gone wild no longer refers solely to spring break debauchery.

Some have graduated to violence.

A mob of students on Friday clashed with law enforcement officers in yet another anti-ICE protest gone bad in downtown Los Angeles.

Instead of learning math, history or science, the youngsters shoved, threw objects and swung poles at police, engaged in vandalism, blocked traffic and caused mayhem on a march from City Hall to the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building.

One federal agent reportedly was injured.

Prosecutors should throw the schoolbook at the lawbreakers.

Kids unhinged enough to physically attack law enforcement need to learn to conduct themselves civilly, respectfully and with dignity.

It’s fair to ask where parents and teachers fit in this equation, too.

Where are students learning this lack of respect for law enforcement?

Are LA schools contributing to such outbursts by indoctrinating kids in hard-left politics?

What responsibility do families and schools have –– to the kids, to public safety, and to civil society broadly –– to instruct children in nonviolence?

Bill Essayli, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California, told The California Post, “The parents, teachers, unions, and administrators facilitating students ditching school to attack federal personnel bear responsibility and should be ashamed of themselves.”

He added, “Imagine how successful our children would be if schools put as much effort into educating them as they do into indoctrinating them.”

The prosecutor said that his office has the mob on video, and will arrest and charge those who broke the law –– even if the transgressors are minors.

Good.

If parents and teachers won’t teach standards and enforce consequences, then we’re glad that federal prosecutors will.
