A MAGA influencer melted down on Wednesday over comments Attorney General Pam Bondi made during a news conference about the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Bondi was noncommittal during the press conference about when the Department of Justice would release more of the Epstein files. She also said that the administration would “continue to follow the law with maximum transparency,” though some analysts doubt that the administration has been forthcoming about the files.
Benny Johnson, a MAGA influencer who hosts an eponymous podcast on YouTube, responded to Bondi’s comments on Wednesday night.
“Christmas came early, or, well, right on time this year, because by Christmas, the DOJ has to now release all Epstein files by law passed by the Senate and the House,” Johnson said. “Overwhelmingly, President Trump said he’s going to sign this bill. And now the DOJ is going to have to answer for this letter, which is one of the most insulting documents I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Johnson put up an image of the unsigned DOJ memo released over the summer that contradicted many of the beliefs held by MAGA fans about Epstein’s case. For instance, the memo said Epstein died by suicide in his jail cell, and that Epstein did not keep a “client list.”
“Something astonishing just happened, by the way, live at the DOJ at a press conference with Pam Bondi,” Johnson said, adding that Bondi appeared to be “gaslighting.”
“That should enrage all of you,” he added.
