Observers alarmed as Trump’s FBI calls ‘horrifying’ meeting of state election officials

Political analysts and observers were alarmed on Thursday after a new report indicated President Donald Trump’s FBI called a “horrifying” meeting of state election officials.

Crooked Media’s “What A Day” reported that election officialsfrom all 50 states have been invited to a mysterious conference at the end of February where they are expected to discuss “preparations for the cycle” alongside the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Election Assistance Commission. One election official described the meeting to Crooked Media’s Matt Berg as “the strangest thing in the world.”

The meeting was revealed at a time when experts are growing increasingly concerned about Trump’s efforts to meddle in the 2026 midterm election. Trump recently called on Republicans to “nationalize” part of the election process to root out alleged “fraud.”

Political analysts and observers reacted to the news on social media.

“Trump is going to try to steal the midterms,” writer Pedro L. Gonzalez posted on X.

“Horrifying,” Joshua Basseches, assistant professor at Tulane University, posted on X.

“Well this sounds fucking horrible and wrong,” former Republican lawmaker Joe Walsh posted on X.

“This kind of shit is why you simply do not pass multiple enabling acts for the Trump government,” Brian Beutler, host of the “Politix” podcast, posted on X.

“Watch this,” Harris Peskin, partner at ESG Law, posted on X.
