Word of the Day: covert

covert ˈkoʊvərt adjective and noun

adjective: secret or hidden

noun: a covering that serves to conceal or shelter something

noun: a flock of coots, which are medium-sized water birds

The word covert has appeared in 339 articles on NYTimes.com in the past year, including on Nov. 21 in “‘Wicked’ and the Never-Ending Press Tour,” by Esther Zuckerman
