A blufftop Malibu home is back on the market with a massive $26 million price chop from its original ask, Gimme Shelter can reveal.
The gated estate, overlooking the Pacific, now asks $30 million, down from its $35 million ask last February — and its $56 million ask in 2022.
The seller is Suzanne Zimmer, ex-wife of Hans Zimmer. He’s the two-time Oscar-winning composer for the films “The Lion King” and “Dune” — his other scores were for “Gladiator” and collaborations with Christopher Nolan on “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight” trilogy, among many others.
Zimmer purchased this dwelling, which sits on 1.5 acres, with her now ex-husband for around $2.8 million in 1995, according to reports. It was formerly owned by by the songwriter and composer Burt Bacharach.
“It’s now priced right, and it will be the next great estate to go,” said listing broker Branden Williams of the Beverly Hills Estates, who is listing the home with his partner, Rayni Williams, also of the Beverly Hills Estates, and Chris Cortazzo of Compass.
Zimmer is the founder of Happy the Golden Jam, which produces jam from fruit grown on the property and by local farmers.
Now that Zimmer’s kids are older, she’s downsizing, Williams said. “This was her big, family home. It’s a lot of property now that the kids are all out of the house,” he added.
The 5,764-square-foot spread features a slate tile roof and copper accents. It comes with seven bedrooms and six baths.
Inside, the home is anchored by a white chef’s kitchen with an eat-in nook There’s also a living room with a woodburning fireplace and beamed ceilings.
Upstairs, a main bedroom suite comes with ocean views and a gas fireplace. An additional four bedrooms come with unique features like Juliet balconies and dormer windows.
Outside, the estate boasts a pool, a bluestone gas firepit, decks with ocean views, an orchard, a vegetable garden and lots of place for kids to play, Williams said.
In a past interview, Zimmer said she raised chickens on the property, and her kids once kept rabbits and turtles as pets. “It’s a magical place. There are storybrook paths, creeks and ponds,” she told Mansion Global.
The estate also sits “right over the path that takes you to the beach — and access to a very famous surf break, ‘the Rock,’” Williams said. “It’s your own private surf break for locals.” The property also boasts a private door that opens to Little Dume Beach access, the listing notes.
Williams added that the traditional home is “totally renovated” and ideal for a family.
Built in 1978 and designed by architect Peter Choate, the property sits on landscaped grounds. It opens to trees and bougainvillea, a 100-foot driveway lined with mature eucalyptus trees and pots of white roses, along with brooks and ponds over a bridge.
