Co-Stars and Fans Pay Tribute to Catherine O’Hara

Comedians, co-stars and fans flooded social media with memories and favorite scenes featuring Catherine O’Hara, a prolific actress and comedian known for movies such as “Home Alone” and television shows like “Schitt’s Creek,” who died on Friday.

Macaulay Culkin, who played O’Hara’s son Kevin in two “Home Alone” movies, reacted to her death on Instagram on Friday afternoon with photos of them together, and words addressed to her.

One of the photos is from “Home Alone” in 1990. In the other photo, the two embrace years later.

“Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more,” Culkin wrote. “I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”

Pedro Pascal, who starred in the television series “The Last of Us” with O’Hara, posted a photo of the two embracing on set.

“There is less light in my world, this lucky world that had you, will keep you, always,” Pascal wrote.

Justin Theroux, who starred with O’Hara in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” posted a photo of O’Hara’s director chair.

“Oh Catherine. You will be so so missed,” Theroux wrote.

“She was my Meryl Streep,” wrote Paul Walter Hauser, an Emmy-winning actor and wrestler. He listed several of her shows and movies and said he was thankful for the work she did.

An “angel just went home to Heaven,” he wrote, adding, “And she’s not home alone.”

Videos and photos of scenes from O’Hara’s career filled social media.

Among the tributes were snippets of her lip-syncing to Harry Belafonte’s “Banana Boat” song in “Beetlejuice” and her speech patterns as the wig-obsessed Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek.”

Many posts mentioned Kate McCallister, the power suit-wearing forgetful mother O’Hara played in two “Home Alone” movies.

Fans shared her moment with John Candy, who started out in the same comedy group, the Second City troupe, as O’Hara. In their scene, Candy plays Gus Polinski, the “Polka King of the Midwest,” who gives Mrs. McCallister a lift as she fights to make it home for Christmas.
