Ben Bergquam, a reporter for Steve Bannon’s War Room, faced backlash on live television after attempting to report on protests in Minneapolis.
While speaking outside of a federal building on Friday, Bergquam told Bannon that “you don’t hear about people getting shot for the most part other than illegals.”
A nearby protester took issue with the reporter’s language.
“People are not illegal!” the demonstrator shouted. “There are no illegals!”
Bergquam struggled to continue his report as the protester shouted.
“Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, let’s focus on us, okay?” Bannon pleaded as more activists joined. “We’re doing the interview, not her.”
“We don’t want you here!” the woman chanted.
“Ben, focus, focus,” Bannon remarked. “Why don’t you get some place a little quieter, and we’ll come back to you later, okay?”
“Don’t engage in a debate, Ben,” he advised. “You’re not going to debate, but this is not debatable.”
“This is what the ICE agents have to put up with every day. Ben Bergquam’s just reporting on an American street, a story. And what happens? You see, there’s nothing but savages. That’s why you can’t bend a knee to this. You can’t look the other way.”
