A MAGA Senator baffled political analysts and observers on Thursday during an interview on the right-wing TV network Newsmax.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) claimed during an interview that President Donald Trumpwas justified in raiding the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center on Wednesday because he was “cheated” during the 2020 general election. Trump has consistently claimed that he won Georgia during the 2020 election, even though a recount and multiple courts have certified that former President Joe Biden won the state.
“It all goes back to the 2020 election,” Tuberville, who was elected to the Senate in 2020, said during the interview. “They cheated the heck out of President Trump. They cheated some senators. There’s people that are up here in the Senate and House right now that got in because the ballot boxes were stuffed.”
On Wednesday, Trump’s FBI raided the Fulton County election office and confiscated more than 700 boxes of material related to the 2020 general election, including ballots and the county’s voter rolls. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was part of the raid, according to reports, which fueled speculation that the administration would use the materials to subvert future elections.
Political analysts and observers reacted to Tuberville’s claims on social media.
“He’s dumber than a 5 pound bag of applesauce and half as useful,” journalist Andrew Donaldson posted on X.
“I’ve never understood how it was possible to ‘cheat’ so Trump lost but many Republicans, like Coach Tuberville, won down ballot,” Joyce Vance, a law professor at the University of Alabama, posted on X.
“Uh huh, and yet somehow, SOMEHOW despite all of this purported cheating, you managed to unseat an incumbent senator by 20 points. Guess they just forgot that race,” Brian Rosenwald, senior editor at Made By History, posted on X.
