Ex-lawmaker who faked letters of support during ethics probe convicted of 4 felonies

A former state legislator in Colorado was convicted of four felonies on Wednesday after she faked letters of support during an ethics investigation, according to a new report.

Sonya Jaquez Lewis, a Boulder County Democrat, was convicted on four counts of attempting to influence a public servant and three counts of forgery for submitting fabricated letters of support during a Colorado Senate Ethics Committee investigation into workplace conditions in her office, The Colorado Sun reported.

In 2024, Lewis was barred from having state-paid aides after two staff members filed workplace misconduct complaints against the Democrat. The aides contended that Lewis also broke campaign finance laws by paying them do landscaping and other work for her that was paid for with campaign funds.

Lewis resigned in February last year after it was revealed that she submitted at least one fabricated letter to the ethics committee.
