Donnie Wahlberg reveals another ‘Blue Bloods’ alum will join spinoff ‘Boston Blue’

It’s all in the family.

Donnie Wahlberg has revealed that another former “Blue Bloods” actor will reprise his role on the spinoff show “Boston Blue” — but it’s not Tom Selleck.

Per TV Line, Len Cariou, 86 – who played Danny Reagan’s (Wahlberg) grandfather, Henry – will make a guest appearance in episode 13 of “Boston Blue.” Wahlberg confirmed the news during a virtual panel hosted by the Television Critics Association on Tuesday.

Fellow “Blue Bloods” alum Bridget Moynahan, who played Danny’s sister, Erin, will also appear in the seventeenth episode, after initially appearing in the pilot.

“Blue Bloods” aired on CBS for 14 seasons from 2010 to 2024.

Series star Selleck, 80, has repeatedly blastedthe network for ending the show.

In an Oct. 2024 interview, the “Magnum P.I.” star told TV Insider, “I’m kind of frustrated.”

The “Friends” alum also  told Town & Country that he hoped CBS would “come to their senses” about cancelling “Blue Bloods.”

The procedural was set in New York City and followed the fictional Irish Catholic Reagan family, led by patriarch Frank (Selleck), who have a history of working in law enforcement.

Frank was the New York City Police Commissioner and his son, Danny was also a cop for the NYPD.

“Boston Blue”(airing Fridays at 10 p.m. on CBS) follows Danny as he takes a position in the Boston Police Department.

Selleck hasn’t appeared on “Boston Blue” yet, but Wahlberg said it’s possible.

“Of course, I spoke to Tom the minute I was deciding if this was something I was going to do,” Wahlberg, 56, told Parade, in an October interview.

“And I can’t really get into the details of those conversations, but he’s been very supportive,” the former New Kids on The Block member added. “I can say, would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or would I love Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely, yes.”

However, in a November interview,Selleck admitted that it’s unlikely he’ll appearon “Boston Blue.”

“I don’t know if I would do ‘Boston Blue’ — that’s another show,” Selleck told Hour Detroit. “I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure ‘Blue Bloods’ has its place in television history, but I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”

He also repeated that cancelling “Blue Bloods” was a “huge disappointment.”

The “Three Men and a Baby” actor added, “I still don’t know why CBS did it. If you get rid of the football, we were the sixth most popular series in all of television.”

So far on “Boston Blue,” Wahlberg and Mika Amonsen, who plays Danny’s son, Sean, are the only “Blue Bloods” characters who are series regulars on the spinoff – and Amonsen is new, replacing Andrew Terraciano, 22, who played Sean on “Blue Bloods.”

Terraciano, who  graduated from New York University in May, told  Us Weekly that he got the bad news that he wouldn’t return on his graduation day.

In October, “Boston Blue” co-showrunner Brandon Margolis told Variety, “We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on Blue Bloods. Really, it came down to we’re telling a new chapter in both of their lives,” he said.

The “Boston Blue” episode Cariou will feature in will reportedly air April 3 on CBS (10 p.m.).
