Some D.C.-area students will remain out of class again Wednesday as the region slowly tries to clean up after a winter storm.
The closings come as a brutally long cold snap has made it difficult to clear away the mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that fell across the region on Sunday. While crews have made some progress in clearing major roads, many secondary and neighborhood roads have remained covered.
Road and sidewalk conditions are among the factors school officials consider in deciding whether to cancel or delay classes. Most districts have opted not to shift to virtual learning and instead are using traditional snow days built into the school calendar.
Here is a roundup of closings Wednesday for major districts in the region:
- Anne Arundel County Public Schools: Closed; code red for employees
- Fauquier County Public Schools: Closed; code red for employees
- Frederick County (Maryland) Public Schools: Schools are closed; offices will open two hours later
- Prince George’s County Public Schools: Closed through Thursday; emergency personnel to report. The district will open meal distribution sites on Wednesday.
- Spotsylvania County Public Schools: Closed; essential employees report to perform emergency services as needed
