In a fiery speech, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) demanded Wednesday that bank executives for JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America be dragged before Congress to testify over their alleged unlawful connections with Jeffrey Epstein.
Tlaib’s remarks were made during a hearing of the House Oversight Committee, which was deliberating a vote on a measure that would find Hillary and Bill Clinton in contempt of Congress for defying a congressional subpoena, punishable with up to one year in jail.
“Who was funding [Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking operation]?” Tlaib asked during the committee hearing, a committee she sits on as a member. “Literally, JPMorgan turned a blind eye to evidence of sex trafficking, even after his 2008 conviction – they still hid suspicious activity reports that should have been reported!”
JPMorgan Chase has had long-running banking relationship with Epstein, including after his 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a minor. Plaintiffs in a lawsuit have alleged that the bank “knew or should have known” about Epstein’s sex-trafficking operations – operations that were alleged to have been facilitated, in part, by the baking services of JPMorgan Chase.
JPMorgan Chase has paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to settle lawsuits related to its relationship with Epstein, and Bank of America was accused last year of also enabling Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation by failing to act on suspicious transactions and transfers.
“In 2020, [JPMorgan Chase] agreed to pay $290 million to settle a lawsuit – I don’t care! You come here!” Tlaib continued.
“You guys have got to realize, Epstein’s not the last person! There’s probably another Epstein out there right now doing sex trafficking! We should hold everybody in contempt that had anything to do to cover this up, including bank executives that still have their jobs!”
