Danish lawmaker Anders Vistisen delivered a shockingly blunt message to President Donald Trump Tuesday while on the floor of the European Parliament — one that saw the lawmaker censured for his use of an expletive.
“Let me put this in words you might understand: Mr. President f— off,” Vistisen said in a clip from the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, uploaded to social media on Tuesday and reported on by News 18.
Vistisen’s message comes amid Trump’s escalating threats to acquire Greenland, which include a new wave of tariffs on eight European nations, including Denmark, that oppose the move. Trump said the levies would increase and remain until Greenland comes under U.S. control.
Trump also shared an image depicting himself planting an American flag on Greenland and standing alongside a sign that indicates the Arctic island had become a U.S. territory, an image that was later shared by the White House on social media.
While Vistisen attempted to continue his message, he was interrupted by an official over his use of crass language.
“I’m sorry colleague, this is against our rules,” the official can be heard saying. “As much as you or the room might feel in this, we have clear rules about curse words, language that is inappropriate in this room. I’m sorry to interrupt you, but it is unacceptable, even if you might have strong political feelings about this.”
Trump claims Greenland, an autonomous country that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, is essential to America’s security and should become a part of the United States.
