40-year-old stabbed, officer assaulted after brawl erupts at LA’s MLK Day Parade: cops, report

A Los Angeles parade honoring Martin Luther King Jr. quickly spiraled into chaos Monday when a fight broke out, leading to an alleged stabbing, while a cop was assaulted near the melee, according to police and reports.

Units from the Los Angeles Police Department were called to the intersection of Stocker Street and Crenshaw Boulevard following reports that a 40-year-old man was stabbed after a fight involving several people just before 2 p.m.

As a crowd grew around the scene, multiple fights reportedly broke out in adjacent streets, according to police.

In response, officers formed a skirmish line and issued dispersal orders.

A Los Angeles Police Department cop was allegedly assaulted near the MLK Day Parade route in Leimert Park, according to ABC 7.

The officer’s condition and whether it was related to the stabbing are not yet known.

“Unfortunately after the parade, LAPD responded to a group of young people creating a disturbance and there are reports of a stabbing towards the end of the parade route that remains under investigation,” Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement.

The victim was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital, although details about his condition are unknown.
