Trump uncorks blistering threat during CBS interview: ‘We’ll never get to the courts’

President Donald Trump made a blistering threat during his one-on-one interview with CBS News’ Tony Dokoupilon Tuesday in Detroit.

Trump traveled to Michigan to speak to the Detroit Economic Club on Tuesday. The trip also included a pit stop at the Ford manufacturing plant, where Trump was seen yucking it up with factory workers. During the visit, Trump also gave a wide-ranging interview to CBS News and made some eyebrow-raising comments.

At the end of the interview, Dokoupil asked Trump to clarify some of his previous comments about the limits of his power. Trump previously said his power was constrained only by his “morality.”

Dokoupil asked if Trump saw the courts and the Constitution as limits on his power as well.

“Well, the Constitution of course. That goes without saying,” Trump said. “But you’re asking me what really can stop- – we’ll never get to the courts, we’ll never get to the Constitution, because … I wanna see what’s good for our country. And you know what? The courts wanna see that too.”

Trump’s comments come at a time when his administration is seeking to influence the outcome of the 2026 midterm, which some have said is shaping up to be a disaster for Republicans.

Trump’s Department of Justice has sought copies of several states’ voter rolls and has supported the gerrymandering efforts of Republican-controlled legislatures across the country.
