The actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested and booked into jail in Los Angeles on Monday after an encounter in which the police said he assaulted the driver of a ride-share vehicle and made “criminal threats” toward that person.
Mr. Sutherland, best known for playing Jack Bauer in the television drama “24,” was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond, according to county jail records available online. He has a court date scheduled for Feb. 2, the records say.
A representative for Mr. Sutherland did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.
In a statement, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said officers had responded to a call at about 12:15 a.m. on Monday about an assault involving a ride-share driver near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in the Hollywood area.
The investigation determined that Mr. Sutherland had entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats toward the driver, the police statement says. Officers arrested Mr. Sutherland at the scene. The police said the driver had not sustained any injuries requiring medical treatment.
