Videos of immigration agents confronting and harassing people in Minneapolis left one ex-GOP speechwriter aghast on Monday.
Tim Miller, host of “The Bulwark Podcast,” said in a new video on Monday night that the videos from citizens and journalists have “delivered us these just horrifying scenes of confrontations” between ordinary people and immigration agents. He said the videos have seemed to “pile up one after another” since an immigration agent killed 37-year-old Renee Good, a U.S. citizen and Minneapolis resident, last week.
Miller played one video where a Customs and Border Patrol agent accosted an Uber driver at the Minneapolis airport over his accent. He also showed videos of agents being violent with protesters.
“Let’s just be honest, this is a powder keg,” Miller said. “It’s a powder keg that’s going to lead to more terrible results.”
The Trump administration’s immigration raids have received increased scrutiny since Good was killed last week. Her death sparked nationwide protests and renewed calls for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign or be impeached.
“This is something that you expect to see in a third-world country,” Miller said. “These masked agents and fatigues like pushing and bullying people.”
