The walls appear to be “closing in” around President Donald Trump as a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers prepares to force the president to fulfill one of the central promises from his 2024 campaign, according to one analyst.
House lawmakers are planning to vote on a discharge petition to force the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which Trump has spent a lot of political capital to avoid. Recently released documents painted an unsavory picture of Trump’s relationship with Epstein before he ran for office, and directly undercut claims the president and Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, have made about the case.
Progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen discussed the situation Trump is in during the latest episode of his podcast, “No Lies.”
“The walls are very clearly closing in on Trump,” Cohen said. “For the first time that I can remember, there are full-blown public defections.”
Several Republicans have indicated they plan to vote to release the Epstein files next week. Trump has also faced significant public criticism from Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY).
“Donald Trump is doing the absolute worst politics by fighting the release of the files when he specifically positioned himself as the guy who would undo this deep state cabal,” Cohen continued. “Or maybe it’s the second-worst politics, suggesting that whatever is in the files is even worse than what he’s dealing with right now.”
“Either way, it looks like, despite Trump’s best efforts, we are about to find out as both Democrats and Republicans look to make good on the Trump administration’s own promise of exposing everybody involved in the most notorious pedophile ring in American history,” he added.
