The MAGA world has become too insular and “out-of-touch” to appeal to outsiders, according to a political analyst.
With the MAGA faithful propping up Barron Trump as a fresh face of the movement, Salon columnist Amanda Marcotte believes this interest in the youngest son of Donald Trump is a sign of how behind the times the president’s supporters are.
The 19-year-old has been thrown into the spotlight in recent months and it’s a sign the MAGA contingent of the Republican Party is struggling to appeal to the wider public, Marcotte wrote.
Marcotte wrote, “The MAGA movement lives in perpetual jealousy of mainstream culture, attributing their lack of coolness to a “liberal” conspiracy to shut right-wing folks out of celebrity.
“But, as demonstrated by the uncool musical acts that showed up to perform at Charlie Kirk’s memorial in September, it’s really more that the MAGA world is simply too mediocre and out-of-touch to produce artists or celebrities that impress people outside of their own circles.
“Ironically, it may be Barron Trump’s relative silence that makes him such a fantasy object on the right.”
MAGA followers may also be projecting Trump’s fifth and youngest son as a Kennedy-like reign, but Marcotte observed the ones in front of the camera and constantly speaking are doing more to turn voters off of the Republican Party than convince them to vote.
She wrote, “They want so badly to have the Trump family produce glamorous, charismatic figures like the Kennedys, but the ones who actually plop themselves in front of microphones and cameras are annoying and awful, turning off everyone who isn’t already in the MAGA fold.”
“Barron Trump, though, is both tall and quiet, making him a visible presence that they can project all their hopes on. Well, at least as long as the family can keep more humiliating pictures of him hanging out with his parents from leaking to the press.”
