Mom reveals simple hack to open tricky plastic packaging: ‘I was shocked’

There is no greater irony in life than buying a pair of scissors only to realize you need a second pair of scissors to get them out of the box.

Thankfully, a Brisbane mom has found a solution that is so simple, it’s almost frustrating we didn’t think of it sooner.

Her hack has now gone viral, leaving the mother amazed at how helpful her tip has been for others.

“I was literally shocked when I found it out myself, so I had to share it. I didn’t think it’d be as well received as it was,” she told news.com.au

Taking to Instagram, Amy Freeman revealed the genius way to open the thick, jagged edges of a heat-sealed plastic blister pack.

“Am I the only one who didn’t know how to open this type of packaging?” the mom of four asked in the post.

Just like most of us, the 40-year-old has previously turned to scissors to cut around the edges to free an item from the plastic.

We all know that to tear at the plastic hurts your hands and, of course, leaves you with jagged edges.

Turns out we’ve all been working harder, not smarter.

“You don’t need scissors to open these,” Freeman continues.

She explains she was “shocked” when she saw someone else open a plastic blister pack in a way she’d never even considered.

“All you gotta do, guys, is squeeze it,” she revealed.

Freeman proceeds to hold a package with scissors inside up to the camera, before squeezing it firmly between her hands.

In an instant, the packaging changes; the bottom forms a gap and the plastic bows outward, allowing her to effortlessly tear the package in half and pull the scissors out in one clean motion.

“It’s that simple. So much stuff comes in this type of packaging,” she shared.

Her hack blew minds, made evident by her comment section.

“This is by far the best hack I’ve ever seen. Why isn’t it written somewhere on the packet?!!” one user demands.

Another thankful commenter writes: “GET OUT!!!! Thank you so much for that, you’ve just changed my life. I’m forever in your debt.”

“This should be taught at school,” a third suggests.

“Well, I’m 61 and just found this out,” another joked.

The overwhelming response highlights a phenomenon known as “wrap rage”.

It’s the genuine anger and physical frustration caused by nearly impossible-to-open packaging.

The packaging is specifically designed to be theft-proof and durable for shipping, but seemingly impossible for a human to open without a battle.

Some people revealed their own trials of the opening hack hadn’t proven so successful.

“Didn’t work for me with my Kmart phone charger. My fingers were sore after five minutes,” one person reported back.

“Yes, but it doesn’t work with every one of these packages,” another claimed.

A third advised: “It will only work on cheap quality products/packaging. If it’s a branded product it’s unlikely this will work as the plastic is thicker.”
