Oluchi Okananwa scored 20 points, Saylor Poffenbarger added 19, and the No. 9 Maryland women’s basketball team never trailed en route to an 84-68 victory over Princeton on Sunday afternoon at Xfinity Center.
Addi Mack added 15 points for the Terrapins despite exiting for about three minutes of the third quarter to receive treatment on an apparent left ankle injury. Maryland improved to 5-0 for the 10th time under Coach Brenda Frese.
Madison St. Rose scored 20 points and sank three three-pointers for Princeton, and Olivia Hutcherson added 19 points. The Tigers (2-1) were outrebounded 39-28.
Maryland gave back most of its 26-10 lead from the end of the first quarter for a 34-30 halftime advantage before it took control with a 12-0 spurt early in the third. Yarden Garzon’s three-pointer put Maryland’s lead back in double digits before Okananwa fed Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu for a basket and followed with her own layup to push the Terps’ lead to 48-33.
Maryland hosts Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. Thursday (Big Ten+).
