Reacting to JD Vance’s bellicose attack on the people of Minneapolis at a White House press conference on Thursday, “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski jumped on the vice president’s defense of the ICE agentwho shot 37-year-old Renee Good in the face.
Noting the reporting that the shooter, identified as Jonathan Ross, was injured months ago during another ICE-related stop that led to his being injured and requiring stitches, Brzezinski questioned whether he should be on the street at all, seeking vengeance while armed.
Pointing to Vance saying Ross had every right to be “sensitive” at the potential of being injured again, the MS NOW host became alarmed.
“Can I just point out about the vice president kept saying, isn’t there ‘empathy’ for this shooter who was just months ago involved in a situation where he was rammed and severely injured?” she asked.
“So are we saying that we have traumatized ICE agents going out into the field, into urban areas with no knowledge of the community and dressed for war? So they’re traumatized, dressed and armed for war and being sent into communities where they have no connection. That seems really productive,” she observed.
With the rest of the panel agreement that the agents seem over their heads on how to deal with an enraged community, Brzezinski noted once again, “Well, if they’re traumatized, armed to the teeth, dressed like they’re going to war and not trained, that’s a mess.”
