‘Not normal at all’: Concerning development in ICE probe flagged by ex-FBI counsel

A former general counsel for the FBI on Thursday flagged a concerning development in the investigation into the lethal shooting during an immigration operation in Minneapolis.

On Wednesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcementagent Jonathan Ross shot and killed 37-year-old mother Renee Good while she was trying to leave the scene of an immigration operation in Minneapolis. Good’s killing sparked protests and intense debate about the Trump administration’s deportation operations.

After Good’s killing, Minneapolis police began investigating. But the FBI took over the investigation into Good’s death on Thursday, according to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

Andrew Weissmann, who served as the FBI’s general counsel from 2011 to 2013, flagged that move on a new episode of “George Conway Explains It All (To Sarah Longwell)”on Thursday.

“That is not normal at all,” Weissmann said.

He added that there could be massive implications for the investigation if federal agents refuse to cooperate with local authorities.

“They need them,” Weissman said. “There are some unique capabilities that state and locals have.”

Experts have also said it could be difficult for the Trump administration to conduct an investigation into the shooting that the public will trust. Multiple administration officials have already sought to label Good as a “left-wing terrorist” and have said the officer acted in self-defense.

The federal agencies responsible for investigating Good’s death are also controlled by Trump loyalists.
