Nancy Mace admits on Newsmax GOP on track to lose: ‘I don’t believe we’ve done enough’

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) admitted on Newsmax Wednesday morning that she isn’t confident Republicans are going to retain the majority in the House of Representatives in this year’s midterm elections.

However, she refused to put any of the blame on President Donald Trump or Republican policies, instead spinning the narrative that Republicans have been obstructed in the Senate from passing enough of the MAGA agenda to satisfy voters.

“Are you confident Republicans can hold onto the majority come November?” one anchor asked her, noting that already the House GOP is rocked by a wave of vacancies, including the sudden death of Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) and the resignation of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

“Um, well, no I’m actually not,” said Mace, who is leaving the House in order to run for governor of South Carolina. “I feel like we could do a lot more. We don’t have a lot of time, I believe, to implement all of Donald Trump’s agenda. Republican primaries start in March. Texas is one of the earliest states. And I don’t believe we’ve done enough.”

“I mean, I’m looking at the immigration policies of the president,” said Mace. “we could have codified some of the deportation, for example, of illegal aliens who are rapists, murderers, and pedophiles. We haven’t done that yet, that bill’s been sitting in the Senate for the last year almost to the day. I think we could have done a lot more, but we’ll see. We’ve got to take over, as Donald Trump said yesterday, the health care issue, he has great ideas, great plans on fixing it.”

“He’s spot on, everything he’s said has been the best idea for the country, he’s going to go down as the best president in the United States,” Mace added. “but I don’t want to see the House or the Senate — particularly the Senate, which is the bottleneck right now — holding up his agenda and ensuring that we don’t win the House.”

As Trump seeks to reassure his party in strategy retreats, recent polling has shown collapsing support for the president and a consistent swing of support for Democrats to control Congress. Special elections for the past several months have generally resulted in significant overperformances for Democratic candidates.
