Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) sought to keep a low profile on the 5th anniversary of the Jan. 6 riots despite raising a fist in solidarity with the rioters in 2021.
On Tuesday, Hawley told HuffPost’s Igor Bobic that he had no plans to meet with the pardoned rioters who were marching to the Capitol.
“My longstanding position is, if you’re violent, you should go to prison,” the senator said.
However, following President Donald Trump’s reelection, Hawley insisted that he wasn’t bothered by the pardons.
“He said he was going to do this during the campaign and he did exactly what he said he was going to do,” Hawley said at the time.
