MAGA faction revolts as GOP slips ‘middle finger’ into latest spending bill: report

Supporters of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement are revolting Monday after House Republicans quietly slipped a provision into the latest government spending bill to shield pesticide makers from accountability.

Conservative commentator Brett Cooper took to Fox News recently to sound the alarm about House Republicans’ efforts to protect pesticide makers, telling the network that the lawmakers’ efforts were a betrayal to the MAHA movement long championed by the Trump administration and its supporters.

“House Republicans are slipping something into our new spending bill which would give immunity to huge pesticide companies,” Cooper said.

“I think it would cover 57,000 different chemicals, and these are chemicals that have been linked to cancer, Parkinson’s and infertility, and House Republicans are just slipping it in which feels like they’re giving the middle finger to MAHA. So while I am excited about getting rid of paper straws, it feels like this is a bigger issue that we should be talking about.”

The relevant provision is Section 453, which effectively blocks lawsuits against pesticide makers and hampers the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to enforce laws around regulating pesticides, according to the nonprofit organization Stand For Our Health.

Prominent MAGA figures and supporters were not pleased with the news.

“This is unacceptable!” wrote prominent MAGA influencer Mike Engleman Monday to their more than 281,000 followers on X.

“This is criminal!” wrote another, Republican Senate candidate in South Carolina Paul Dans, in a social media post Monday on X. “Our coalition was built on MAHA and our lives depend on it.”

Others, like X user “Dave,” who frequently posts and shares content critical of Democrats and supportive of Republicans, warned that an abandonment of MAHA could lead to electoral disaster in the upcoming midterm elections.

“This is how we lose the midterms!!!” they wrote Monday in a social media post on X. “The Republicans are failing MAGA and MAHA. I absolutely cannot vote for any representative, no matter what party, that supports giving immunity to any business! This isn’t about politics, it’s about our health and well-being!”
