Pilot killed in fiery plane crash at Cape Cod airport

The pilot of a small, private plane died in a fiery crash in a popular vacation town on Cape Cod Sunday afternoon.

Multiple crews, including the Provincetown Fire Department and “mutual aid” from neighboring municipalities, rushed to the wreck at the Provincetown Municipal Airport around 3:15 p.m.

The pilot, the sole person on board, was killed in the crash, town officials said in a news release.

“Our thoughts are with the pilot’s family,” the town said in the release.

No details about what caused the plane to go down were immediately available. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, the release said.

The Post reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration for more information.

The airport was closed in the wake of the crash.

Provincetown, a summer vacation hotspot at the tip of Cape Cod, has roughly 3,600 people who live there year-round. The popular destination, often shortened to just P-town, is flooded with upwards of 60,000 during peak holiday seasons as ritzy vacationers rush to their second homes along the water.

Like much of New England, Provincetown was covered in a thick blanket of snow last week. Between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the cozy town received an estimated three inches of snow.
