Maduro held in New York as Trump says U.S. will temporarily ‘run’ Venezuela

Deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife are being held in Brooklyn, a law enforcement official said, and could appear in a Manhattan federal court within days. If convicted on narco-terrorism charges, they could face decades behind bars in the United States. U.S. commandos captured the one-time strongman in a surprise predawn operation Saturday, ending his 12-year rule and throwing Venezuela’s future into uncertainty. President Donald Trump said the United States will “run” Venezuela for an unspecified period, and Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, a Maduro loyalist, was sworn in as interim president.
